A moisture-damaged ceiling can leave a sunroom looking worn even when the rest of the space is ready to enjoy. For this Franklin, Tennessee project, the homeowner contacted Main Street Home Repairs to remove the deteriorated ceiling and replace it with a smooth, finished surface.

Our crew completed the ceiling removal, replacement drywall installation, joint finishing, sanding, priming, painting and edge finishing. The project photographs show the work progressing from exposed framing to the completed painted ceiling.

Why the Sunroom Ceiling Needed Replacement

The existing ceiling had deteriorated from moisture exposure. Unlike a climate-controlled interior room, this sunroom ceiling was exposed to outdoor humidity and changing conditions.

The homeowner wanted the damaged ceiling removed and replaced. Our work focused on replacing the existing drywall and completing the surface through the final painted finish.

For similar projects, the room’s exposure matters when planning the replacement. Ceiling materials and finishing products need to suit the installation conditions; a smooth painted appearance alone does not establish weather resistance.

Removing the Existing Ceiling

We removed the old ceiling before installing the replacement drywall. The photograph below shows the exposed wood framing and the shape of the ceiling, including its angled perimeter sections.

This stage shows the extent of the replacement, rather than a small patch or a repaint of the original ceiling.

Installing Replacement Ceiling Drywall

Our crew installed new drywall across the main ceiling and the angled sections around its edges.

The installation photograph shows the boards in place before joint finishing. At this stage, the seams and fastener locations remain visible. Hanging the boards is one part of the work; finishing them creates the continuous surface shown in the completed photograph.

Finishing the Drywall Seams and Ceiling Edges

After installation, we finished the drywall joints and fastener locations. The progress photograph shows joint compound applied before final sanding, priming and painting.

Our crew also finished the edges around the ceiling perimeter to complete the transitions between the ceiling and adjoining surfaces.

Questions About Sunroom Ceiling Replacement

Can a moisture-damaged ceiling be patched instead of replaced?

The decision depends on the condition and extent of the damage. A limited repair and a complete ceiling replacement involve different scopes. For this Franklin project, the homeowner requested removal and replacement of the deteriorated ceiling.

Does replacing the drywall eliminate humidity exposure?

No. Replacing the ceiling does not turn an outdoor-exposed sunroom into a climate-controlled room. The space’s moisture exposure and the suitability of the ceiling system remain important considerations.

Can drywall finishing and painting be included together?

Yes. On this project, Main Street Home Repairs handled installation, finishing, sanding, priming, painting and the ceiling edges as one scope of work.

How much does sunroom ceiling replacement cost?

Pricing depends on the ceiling area, height, access, removal work, materials, ceiling shape and finishing requirements. Photographs and your property location help us begin reviewing the project. An on-site assessment may be needed to confirm the work and price.
